Metro Pedestrian Landscapes

Attractive Sidewalks

Pedestrian functionality is a top priority in congested cities that need to be envisioned as spaces where pedestrians will use modern public transportation and engage with retail in new ways that are not so car-centered. Yet, people wade through the multitudes of vehicles swarming the roads to go shopping or walk down the aisles of roads.

With a view to paving the way, literally and figuratively, for the pedestrians, Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) has come up with the novel idea of streetscaping and has begun undertaking laying of footpaths on either side on the ground of the elevated metro rail corridor, designed to suit the urbane tastes of the denizens of Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Cyberabad.

The sidewalks of the roads have been fitted with strong and sustainable paver blocks with specially-designed tiles spread across on either side of the road.

Buildnext created a sizable stretch of pavement on either side of the arterial Road No. 36 from Jubilee Hills Check Post to the Junction near Neeru’s; and from there up to Cyber Towers. This project entails completely seamless pedestrian walkways throughout the five-km stretch on each side, barring a few obstructions. Even the undulations were followed naturally to make the pavements become the road-shoulders. The pavements were tapered at some entrances where authorized parking is allowed.
